Recently, I signed a contract to teach theology at Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Connecticut starting this August. I will also be preaching the retreat for seminarians and on the external formation team. Between these responsibilities, this is full-time, if not more than that. This should be a long-term position where both sides want stability. I expect to be here at least 6 years. All my superiors have signed off on this. I have been working towards a position like this since I got my doctorate in 2022. In fact, this was the kind of position my superiors saw me doing when they assigned me to do a doctoral degree.
Given various factors, I will be driving out to Connecticut in early April. For example, we have a meeting of all Legionaries in Canada and the US after Easter in Connecticut. If I did not go before Easter, I would need to fly out to that, and then drive out a few weeks after I fly back. One disadvantage of being a theology professor is I have a full carload of books, so I can’t just fly out with a few suitcases.
There are a few unfortunate side effects. First, I will not be in California. There were a few people I hoped to meet or things I hoped to see. These simply will be missed. On the other hand, if you are near Holy Apostles in Connecticut, reach out and maybe we can talk. Second, at least for the 2025-2026 school year, I will likely have to reduce my other commitments to ensure I have enough time to prepare classes for the first time and help young men in seminary formation. Once I am repeating classes and get the hang of my role on the formation team, I would be open to doing more talks, etc. during the school year.
I am excited to help Fr. Peter Kicer MSA and the rest of the team at Holy Apostles. I appreciate the degree of trust he has placed on me.
